Photography Group January Meeting

The Group met at 10:15 a.m. on 20th January with the theme ‘Past Holidays’.

Only 5 people attended – with such a small number, a unanimous vote for best picture was given to Pam Liberson’s ‘Fighting Monkeys.’

The theme and date were changed to accommodate Anjie Sargeant’s date for her second hip replacement. ‘Past Holidays’ was a departure from the group’s usual practice of a theme that encouraged people to go out and take recent pictures. All the photographs submitted were of excellent quality and the stories behind why they were chosen proved both interesting and entertaining – one was taken over 40 years ago!

Because of upcoming long term treatment for Pam Liberson – effectively reducing the group to only 3 people – it was decided to postpone the February meeting until March.

Apart from lengthy discussions of health problems, Mike Liberson and John Hawke  examined the difference between bracketing exposures (for enhancing dynamic range) and focus stacking (to provide greater depth of field). The use of presets were also explained with particular reference to editing in programs such as Photoshop, Lightroom and Affinity Pro.

Visit to Bremont Watch Factory : 20 March 2025

This is first notification of the proposed visit to the Bremont watch
manufacturing plant in Henley-on-Thames on Thursday 20th March 2025.
Transport will be by minibus, departing from Wickes car park as usual at
09.00 prompt. The journey should take about 1.5 to 1.75 hrs depending
upon traffic.

The tour lasts approx. 2 hours and covers most
departments in their purpose built 35,000 sq. ft. factory which they call
The Wing.

Bremont is a British owned company who claim to have the only large-
scale facility in the country which designs, manufactures and assembles
precision watches in their entirety. In their modern machining workshop,
they use the very latest technology; all of which will be seen as part of
the tour.

The cost will be £34.00 per person including transport. After covering
their costs, Bremont donate all of the surplus from the tour cost to
charities. It is believed that the current charity is the London Air
Ambulance Service. The maximum number permitted for each tour is
15, and as usual our first come, first served policy will operate. There is
also a minimum number required to make the minibus hire viable; and all
those intending to join will be expected to use the bus.

You are recommended to have a look at the Bremont website which
gives a lot more information about the company and their products.
We are currently investigating the options for lunch after the tour.

Please indicate to me as soon as possible if you are seriously interested
in this visit so that we may assess its viability.

Best wishes
