The Art Group is a joint Anton and Andover u3a activity.
It aims to improve members’ skills and knowledge in painting and drawing in a variety of media, e.g. watercolour, acrylic, oil, pastel, pencil, charcoal.
Our weekly sessions are very relaxed, friendly and largely unstructured, so you can focus on whatever interests you.
New members are always welcome!
If you have an interest in painting or drawing, whether experienced or a beginner, just contact our group leader below or simply come for a taster session.
Our professional facilitator, Renate West, can help you achieve your objectives and develop your skills.
Renate also leads interesting, short demos and workshops. For example: custom colour mixing; contrast, composition, perspective, use of tone.

Activities and trips
14 October 2025: The Art group made a second field trip to the Longstock Water Gardens near Leckford, to sketch en plein air. The weather being kindly to us, we were able to spend a couple of hours capturing the Autumn beauty in this calm place. It will be fascinating to see how members’ Autumn artworks compare with the summer ones from our June visit to the Water Gardens.
Last 2025 session and Christmas-New Year break
Our last meeting this year is on 9 December. Following a Christmas lunch starting at 12:00pm (for members who have booked) the afternoon session will be at the usual time. At this session members will display a selection of their 2025 artworks. It should be an amazing sight! We plan to show some of them here in the New Year, so do come back then and take a look.
Art group meetings will recommence on Tuesday 6 January 2026, at the place and times below. Hope to see you then!
