Visit to 12th Century St Michaels and All Angels Church

Due to some oversubscription, two parties of Questers visited St Michaels and All Angels Church, Knights Enham on Wednesday, 6th and Thursday, 14th of December.  It was dry but cold for the most part but both parties enjoyed a very entertaining and informative talk by Jill Bentall.  A total of 17 were in attendance, a good turnout.

Photography Group January 2024 Meeting

The Group met at 10:15 on 8th January with the theme ‘Close Up’.

All 6 people attended.

Rosemary Franklin and John Clark did not submit a folio – for various reasons, they had a very busy December.

The theme gave members a great opportunity to play with the Macro settings (or Macro Lenses) on their cameras.

Overall best picture was Anjie Sargeant’s ‘Pussy Willow’ – again the overall standard of the folios was very high (see Group Web page for individual samples).

February’s theme is ‘Mood/Atmosphere’.

There was some discussion about further theme topics and John Hawke emphasised that members should look for photo opportunities during the next 6 months to fulfil future topics – noting, in particular, May’s theme ‘Bleak Open Spaces’ best taken in the Winter months.

Rosemary Crumplin reminded members that folios should only contain 1 archive photo to encourage people to submit new content – in response to the discussion that followed, John Hawke stated that the new content covered the period of all future themes.

Visit to Salisbury Cathedral

Guided Tour of Salisbury Cathedral – Thursday 22 February 2024 11:30 am.

It will be a “guided tour” of the Cathedral and Chapter House (Magna Carta)

The cost will be £7.20 each  The trip is wheelchair friendly and is likely to take an hour.

  • This will be a self-drive trip.
  1. Central Car Park (Mill Stream Approach, Salisbury, SP1 3SL) which is a pay and display car park prices below. It is a 10-minute walk from the car park to the cathedral.

Monday – Saturday
Up to 1 hour: £1.60
Up to 2 hours: £2.90
Up to 3 hours: £4.50
Up to 4 hours: £6.00
Up to 5 hours: £7.20
All day: £9.90

  1. London Road Park & Ride (Salisbury SP1 3HP) If you take the Park and Ride you will need to be on Park & Ride 7 bus which leaves London Road car park at 14 and 44 minutes past the hour. It drops you at New Canal Street near the cinema and the cathedral is a 5-minute walk from there. The journey is supposed to be 7 minutes, but traffic can be busy in Salisbury so to ensure you give yourselves enough time I would suggest getting the 10:44 bus for the 11:30 tour of the cathedral. The cost is £3.00 pp, but it is free if you have a concessionary travel pass.

There is no organised lunch for this trip, Salisbury has many eating places and members are free to make their own arrangements.

If you wish to come on this trip, please advise me soonest. Payment should be made once I  send the successful applicants’ details of how to pay by BACS.
