Visit to 12th Century St Michaels and All Angels Church

Due to some oversubscription, two parties of Questers visited St Michaels and All Angels Church, Knights Enham on Wednesday, 6th and Thursday, 14th of December.  It was dry but cold for the most part but both parties enjoyed a very entertaining and informative talk by Jill Bentall.  A total of 17 were in attendance, a good turnout.

Visit to Salisbury Cathedral

Guided Tour of Salisbury Cathedral – Thursday 22 February 2024 11:30 am.

It will be a “guided tour” of the Cathedral and Chapter House (Magna Carta)

The cost will be £7.20 each  The trip is wheelchair friendly and is likely to take an hour.

  • This will be a self-drive trip.
  1. Central Car Park (Mill Stream Approach, Salisbury, SP1 3SL) which is a pay and display car park prices below. It is a 10-minute walk from the car park to the cathedral.

Monday – Saturday
Up to 1 hour: £1.60
Up to 2 hours: £2.90
Up to 3 hours: £4.50
Up to 4 hours: £6.00
Up to 5 hours: £7.20
All day: £9.90

  1. London Road Park & Ride (Salisbury SP1 3HP) If you take the Park and Ride you will need to be on Park & Ride 7 bus which leaves London Road car park at 14 and 44 minutes past the hour. It drops you at New Canal Street near the cinema and the cathedral is a 5-minute walk from there. The journey is supposed to be 7 minutes, but traffic can be busy in Salisbury so to ensure you give yourselves enough time I would suggest getting the 10:44 bus for the 11:30 tour of the cathedral. The cost is £3.00 pp, but it is free if you have a concessionary travel pass.

There is no organised lunch for this trip, Salisbury has many eating places and members are free to make their own arrangements.

If you wish to come on this trip, please advise me soonest. Payment should be made once I  send the successful applicants’ details of how to pay by BACS.

If you have any questions on this trip, please contact Kevin Barter at kevin.barter2@ntlworld.com or 07974 111551

REPORT OF QUESTERS VISIT TO WEYMOUTH

QUESTERS’ TRIP TO WEYMOUTH – 5th JUNE 2023

This trip was planned months ago and everyone’s digits were crossed that the weather would be fine and thankfully, we had a lovely day on the South Coast soaking up the sun in the low 20’s.  Some decided that the sun was too much for them so headed for the retail shopping experience, others had packed buckets, spades and swimming costumes (I’m joking!) as there was no evidence of sand or wet towels on the minibus as we made our way home.

Robert Kemp comes in for a special mention here as we were collected at the allotted hour at Wickes and despite a few roadworks on the way, managed to deposit us close to the expected time on the seafront in Weymouth.  The “special” bit is due to the fact that he got us back 10 minutes before we were due.  As he took time off to do his own thing over lunch, he had asked another coach driver if he knew an alternative route out of town bypassing the road works so we took the scenic route.

On board, Liz dished out some sweets and there was a quiz on the return leg which tested the general knowledge of the passengers – oh dear!

This is a photo of the sandcastle display on the beach front and it is changed every year.

This is a photo of Queen Victoria’s statue erected in 1887, once again on the esplanade.

The next photo is NOT an advertisement for a particular brand which was the subject of a previous Questers’ visit, other ciders are available!  And at £5.00 a bottle, I’m not surprised!

All in all and has been said before by someone else, it was A Grand Day Out!
